A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...
The Star Wars universe can often be a bit intimidating for those trying to plunge in to the mythical galaxy that it presents. One particular issue of concern for many Star Wars enthusiasts is chronology. The order of events is not always apparent, nor is the order of certain books. It is my intent to provide a concise chronological listing of major events and the corresponding books, movies, etc. that relate to those events. Video games and works of young adult fiction are not covered at this time.

I have listed events and various media by when they occur in the Star Wars universe, relative to Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Relative dating in this manner is the commonly accepted method for Star Wars chronological reference. As a final note, this timeline makes no distinction between "canon" material and extended material.
